I have a high respect for their vision and philiosphy. I feel very confident to recommend them to those looking for psychotherapy. My services (coaching, holistic health counseling, and workshops) will also be a part of Breakthru this year.
Physicians/ Health Care Providers
Continuum Center for Health and Healing (at Beth Israel)
245 5th Avenue at 28th Street www.healthandhealingny.com
Walking into this center is like walking into a spa rather then a doctor's office. It is almost immediately healing and relaxing. The first visit, you will fill out a "holistic" medical form that will ask you not only about your health history, but about stress, relationships, career etc. The doctors really want to know what's going on with you. I give this place 4 stars plus! -
Dr. Ehrlich is my physician and a wonderful integrative doctor. He often recommends natural remedies, is thorough, and never makes me feel rushed. -

Carla is another one of my own health care providers who I trust tremendously. She is knowledgeable about natural remedies and thorough and attentive to women's health needs. -
Young, knowledgeable physician. She used to work at the Center for Health and Healing. She is a western physician, but open to evidence based alternative medicine. She is also knowledgeable about STD's, including genital herpes. -

New York, NY 10023

Accepts health insurance, including Family Health Plus/Healthy NY
I'm not sure how much knowledge Dr. Granas has about natural medicine, but my experience with him has shown that he is patient and willing to listen to concerns and will partner with you regarding your treatment - which means you can discuss with him your ideas about natural alternatives. He has an excellent "bedside manner," maybe the best I've seen. The offices of the Manhattan Physicians Group are comfortable and clean. In fact, I have also been very impressed with the kindness of the staff at the front desk. -

A wonderful dentist, friend, and colleague. She was a fellow student of mine at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. Besides the fact that her office is in the top of the Chrysler building with a beautiful view, she is very knowledgeable and up-to-date on natural methods of care and healing. She uses herbal rinses, natural remedies when possible, and educates you on what she is doing during your cleaning or other oral care. I really enjoy her. She has really made me feel that she is a partner in my health. -
Adam Goodman, DMD
Orthodontics for Adults & Children www.goodortho.com
Manhattan Office: 212-688-GOOD (4663)
440 E. 57th St. Apt. 1A
Riverdale Office: 718-543-4300
3515 Henry Hudson Pkwy.
When I met Dr. Goodman he was the president of the Bronx County Dental Society (a wonderful hospitable bunch as I recently found out at their annual holiday party). While I have not had orthodontic treatment by Dr. Goodman, I have been working with him for about a year publishing the Bronx County Dental Society newsletter. If you are not a fan of dental offices, his certainly will cheer you up the moment you walk in. It is extremely kid friendly, and I have a secret suspicion that the environment is an expression of his own delightful personality. His fees are reasonable and he offers no interest payment plans. -
Don A. Safferstein, D.D.S.
1 Fordham Hill Oval Bronx, NY 10468
718-584-5300
Dr. Goodman referred me to Dr. Safferstein when I needed some work done that I wasn't able to do with my regular dentist. My experience with Dr. Safferstein has been terrific! His staff made me feel so comfortable and Dr. Safferstein is very communicative and knowledgeable about his work. He also has a very kind and relaxed demeanor, and I felt that he genuinely cared about my health. On top of this, his fees are very reasonable. I definitely plan on continuing to work with him. -

She specializes in hypothyroidism, obesity, post-rehab, heart rate training, and has a strong interest in women and diabetes/obesity. Emily is a 3rd year medical student and is also available for workshops and lectures. -
I have a lot of respect for Ari. He understands the difference between true strength and just a souped up appearance. Ari is well in tune with body image and self-esteem issues that come with fitness. His training integrates elements of Yoga, Pilates method floor work, Gyrotonic, functional strength training, and his own interpretation of movement-conditioning styles such as dance, martial arts, and Feldenkrais. -

Fertility Awareness (FA) is a system of body observation by which a woman can know on which days of her cycle she is fertile. This info can be used: to prevent pregnancy, completely naturally, and as effectively as the Pill; as an aid to conception; and to gain insight into one's overall and gynecological health. Moreover, FA is incredibly important, empowering, basic information about how the body works.
I am a big supporter of FAM. It can eliminate the need for other birth control methods, providing a completely natural approach. It can also give you great insight into your health, moods, and cyclical symptoms. Ilene is a very knowledgeable instructor. -
Massage Therapists (Clinical Massage)
Tom Garnica
UES (but available in other locations)
646-872-3122
Tom carries an MS in adult physiology and exercise, and is a New York State licensed massage therapist. His advanced education has allowed him to develop a focused, clinical style of massage therapy with a perception formed from years of involvement in sports and fitness. Tom has also acquired practical experience at physical therapy centers including those associated with the Hospital for Special Surgeries. He offers a variety of therapeutic modalities including medical massage techniques, pre-and post-event treatments, myofascial release, cranio-sacral; relaxing or invigorating Swedish, and Eastern methods of energy work such as Thai and Shiatsu.
I think Tom is simply amazing. I interviewed him for a newsletter I produce for a fitness center here in the city a few years back. His education and clinical knowledge impressed me so much, that when I was concerned about some physical pain I was having, he was the first person I contacted to take a look. He spent time asking me a lot of questions about my symptoms, and then patiently explained to me what he felt was going on. It was the first time I felt a health practitioner understood what I was trying to communicate. Not only that, but Tom has become a friend to me. He always has fantastic and interesting things to talk about and his personality makes me feel really comfortable in his presence. -
